San Remo here I come

Played about 6 hours over Saturday and Sunday. Broke pretty much level for the weekend. Glad I am off to San Remo as I need a break from the machine. I have been putting in a lot of hours 4 tabling plo which is like 6 tabling nlh in my opinion. I am burned out at the mo and my game is suffering. I have the main event and there is all so a €2k event which I will prob play in. I will play these 2 tourneys and take time to chill out. San Remo is a really nice place I am told, so I hope to see more than the inside of my hotel room and the inside of a casino. Not sure what the story is with the Internet in San Remo but I will try and keep you updated on how I exit the main event.

Down swing

Suffering a bit of a down swing at the mo. Had nearly 2 weeks online without a losing day running up winnings of $35k. I had spun $5k in to $40k across 2 sites(gjp and ftp). However in the last 24 hours I dropped $5k of this back and it was as high as $7k/$8k at one stage. I put $3k on to ftp and had it up to $11k but its now back to $4k. For some reason my ftp is very laggy and I time out the odd time, its not my Internet as my gjp tables I have running at the same time are perfect. This defo tilts me so going to have to avoid tilt (excuse the double meaning) until I sort the problem.
Played fitz last night was defo a good run out before San Remo. Made a few mistakes which I noted and will correct. Made some nice reads and plays and ran up a decent stack before clashing with another decent stack and rightfully exciting.
Going to head out tonight as I am defo burned out. Have my graduation from DCU tomorrow and then dinner with the family etc. GAA match on Sunday so wont pack a huge amount of poker in before I set sail for San Remo. Will look to get one session in on Saturday, probably in the night with drunken fish about. Will also play the Sunday tourneys obv.

Total sickness

Just after putting in a sick amount of poker in the last 28 hrs.
Played from 8am-1pm then hit the gym and sorted a few things.
Played from 6pm-9pm last night, was pretty tired so went to bed. Woke up at 1.30 and couldnt get back to sleep.
Played from 1.30am-4am. Backed to bed but made sure my lapper was beside my bed so I could get pottin asap upon wakeing up. Woke up at 11.30.
Played from 11.30am-4pm.
I didnt eat for at least 24hrs of this session except for a little bit of mars easter egg.
Won about $7.5k on Full Tilt but lost just under $7k on Green Joker Poker. With rake back I reckon I am $1k ahead. I think I learned a lot about my game in those 15hrs I played. I was 4 tabling for a large amount of the 15 hrs. So I prob played more hands than most live players would play in a month. I was playing plo and the limits were 2/4 3/6 5/10 and 10/20.
Going to hit the gym now. Going to play the fitz eom tomnight which is a €270 buyin. This is a great tourney with plenty of value. I am going to use this as a warm to the Italin EPT which I am playing on day 1a next Tuesday. I'd be lying if I said I am not hopeful of getting a 2hr session in between gym and fitz.

Back on the horsey

After the disaster in City West it was a case of getting straight back on the horse. Logged on to my gjp acc and saw a good 25/50 game and jumped in. Had 2 $3k buyins after getting the nuts busted for my first buyin. Got out winning $3K. Played some 5/10 and 10/20 later in the day and broke level. So ended up winning $3k for the day.
Got tired towards the end of the day and lost $2k as a result of playing tired. Hit the hay for 12.
I have a bunch of stuff I need to do today so not sure how many hours I will get in.

2 HUGE Pots

Played 2 massive pots yesterday. 1 live 1 online. Made marginal enough calls pre flop both times, but the hands played themselves after the flop as I made top 2 both times.
There was €12k in the live pot which I lost.
There was $12k in the online pot which I won.
I won $12k online playing 10/20 and 5/10 plo.
However I lost €6,800 live, which means I pretty much broke even for the day.
Playen pretty big at the mo taken shots at 25/50 both live and online so those kinda swings are normal. The live game had some real value in it.

So close yet so far.

Chub finished 13th in the IO for €24k, which is nice money but considering the position he was in with 14 or so left it is very dissapointing. It wasn't a blunder or blow or a blow up which cost him, just bad luck. However there is no doubt Chub will have his day in a big tourney, lets just hope I have more than 10% next time.
I did no good in the plo tourney but was in for €400 which was a result in itself. Picked up €3.5k in cash games which was nice. Got €3k in a 5/10 nlh game and €500 in 5/10 plo game.
Might head back out to City West tonight. Having a losing online session as we speak.

Cash action

Played both online and live yesterday.
Won about €7.5k live.
Played the 10/20 live omaha game and a 5/10 out in City West, actions very good.
Won $5k online.
4k of the 5k was won at 25/50 which I was very happy about as its a level I have always struggled to beat.

Going to play the €1.5k tourney today.
Chub, Fallon and Od all return for day 2 of the main event.

Eaten by the wolfe

And so the it was this time of year again, IO 2008. Really had built myself up for this event. In terms of horse racing this is a grade 1 event. I will prob play a min of 5 grade 1's through out the year but the IO has something about it.
Got up at 9.30 ish and hit the gym with Birdy (one of my mates).
Came home and packed. Rang OD and they were running late as Reesy had slept it out. So jumped in to a 5/10 PLO and won $2.5k in the 30 odd mins. Nice start to the day.
Arrived at my table in the IO with 8 players seated I had a very nice line up. Mark Goodwin fills the final spot. Hes a sponsored pro and was 3rd in Monte Carlo million 2 years ago. I had played with him in Walsall last month and played very averagely I taught. It was quite obvious from early on he didnt have much interest and his stack was in constant decline and excited after 4 hours.
I saw a load of small pocket pairs early on what is what u want to get. Which was even better is I seemed to be gettin them when others had premium. However I never setted up once with them. The 6 hours of play I was in the tourney consisted of my stack yo yoing between 7k-11k. I was tryin crack big pairs to double up and when that failed I would rebulit my stack and take another craic. The dynamic of the table changed 2 hours in when Roland de Wolfe was moved to my table. I say my table as I felt I was in full control at this stage and felt it was a matter of time before I would pick up and hands and with them chips.
When Roland first arrived he was disinterested and his stack was dwindling from 10k down to 5k. He was play quite poor and more enjoying convo with Goodwin at our table and P. Parkinson and John Kabbaj on the table behind. However it once there table broke and Goodwin got koed he started to pay attention. With his 5,5k stack he played this hand. It was quite clear it was double up or go home time now for him and I dont think he cared eithier way.
Key pot
Roland limps for 200 and player 2 his left pops it to 1k folded around and Roland calls. Flop QT2 check check. turn 9 roland bets 1,1k which is called. Rivers a 7 Roland checks and your man bets 3k and Roland has 3,3k but makes the call with 55 which is a winner against AJ.
He then goes on to run up a 40k stack making a couple of nut flush draws versus sets etc.

Roland is now in full flight after the dinner break nd runnin the table and making ppl gamble for their tournament life. I decide to slow down a bit and wait for the premium I deserve and look to pick off pots Roland stays out of. I raise a pot up with AT to 1050 and Roland makes it 4,400 to so I release.

Exit hand:
I make it 1k to go with A4 off and Roland decides to play with me from the blinds which ate 150/300 with a 25 ante, Roland was sb. Flop comes AdQdTs, Roland checks and I make it 1,200 to go. He instancelymakes it 6,300. I dwell up for a while and decide he on a draw and stick him in for 9k total. He has 65 of diamonds so i am a 63% favourite here. Chub comes over and gives me congrats on my call, which i quickly inform him is a bad call as Roland runs to good. Like clock work a diamond falls on river and I am busted.

Did €2k in cash then aswell running quite badly.
Won $1,300 online this morning playing 25/50.
Gonna play €1,5k tourney tomorrow.

Reesy KO'd from main event today aswell.
Chub finished 12th on 47k after day one and O'Dea survived on 8k.
Fallon just started today.

A good day in the office

Have a bit of a flu, so stayed in the house all day. Played 3 short sessions putting in about 8 hrs of play.

1st session
Played a 2/4 and 2 3/6 and took about $3k.

2nd session
Played a 5/10 and 2 3/6 took about $2k.

3rd session
Played a 10/20 (which was v soft) a 3/6 and a 2/4 and won $4k.

I obv ran v hot to find myself up $9k a combo of good cards and good luck but I was all so v happy with how I played.
I hope this flu clears up, I may try change my starting day in the open if it doesnt. I dont fancy having to play 12 hours of poker if I am not at 100% . Goin hit the hay early and try get to the gym before the open kicks off.

And so it all begins

Finished work in KPMG on Friday after 5 months in there. I have decide to go full time at the poker for at least the next year and revaluate then. I hope to keep this blog update a minimum of once a week.

Heres a quick overview of the year so far:
January was a great month staked fallon in Kilarney for a healty €8k profit. Also did v well with online cash and tournies. Won the 200 rb for $8k, 2nd in the 300 deepstack for $5,5k, won my 2nd package to io which I got $8,5k for, all so won tickets to GUPKT Wallsall and GJP deep stack main event. Ended the month up in the region of $50k.

February started badly. I took a shoot at the 25/50 and went halfs with reesy in taken a shot at the 50/100. Which cost me close to $15k, also faired v badly in 10/2o. Did no good in Drogheda or Wallsall. Did well with online tournies again. Won a package to ept italy and managed to win the 50 and 100 rb on ipoker in the same night returning $11,500 and $13,500 respectivley. I still lost $25k for the month.

March has been quite-ish so far. Not much cash action. Did bubble my 4th ept of the year. This time it was a $20k package to monte carlo gettin it in on a q88 board with q4 v jj only for a j 2 pop up on the turn, nearly got sic as it was essentially a $20k and biggest pot i was ever in. Picked up my 3rd ticket to the io in sports.

Irish Open
I am playen on day 1a of the open tomorrow. Very excited about it. I feel my tourney game is in good shape at the mo. Certainly alot stronger than it was last year. All so i am much better mentally prepared and have a better idea how do approach this event. I will prob pop out to city west tonight and may even play the super sat.
